For domestic flights, each individual are permitted to carry 15 kg of checked baggage that has come into effect from the 1st of October, 2020. In the case of double or multiseat bookings, passengers will be allowed an additional 10 kg. In the case of excess baggage extra fees will apply. 

For flights to Bali, Kathmandu, Phuket, Krabi, Male, and Mauritius, passengers can carry as much as 20 kg of checked baggage, and any excess baggage may incur additional fees. 

For Indigo flights to the international destinations of Medina and Jeddah, the baggage allowance is 30 kgs / passenger. 

For flights to certain destinations like Abu Dhabi, Kuala Lumpur, Colombo, Amsterdam, Bahrain, Baku, Doha, Jakarta, Dhaka, Istanbul, etc. each individual is allowed a baggage allowance of 30 kg. 

For flights to Nairobi, there is an allowance of 25 kg for each person, whereas for flights going to Jaffna, the cost is 15 kg for each individual. 

For flight from India – Kuwait, and Kuwait – India, checked-in baggages shouldn’t exceed 30 kgs which includes the carriage of a cardboard box that should be within the dimension of 158 cm. 

For EU and African codeshare sectors, each person is allowed 30 kg of baggage, two pieces only. 

For the United States codeshare sectors, each person is allowed 46 kg of checked baggage only, limited to two pieces. 

The maximum permissible dimensions is 158 cm or 62 inches, which is a combination of length, width, and height. 

Indigo’s Carry-On Baggage Allowance 

For the majority of the flights, for domestic and also for the ones flying to international destinations, the cabin baggage allowance is 7 kgs, and the overall dimension mustn’t exceed 115 cm that combines the length, weight, and height.

1. LED/LCD TVs – Each customer can carry no more than two television sets that would go in as checked baggage. Customers carrying television sets in their checked bags, alongside the free bag allowance will incur an additional charge at excess baggage rates. 2. Films and Photographic Equipment – You can carry them either in your hand or checked in baggage. When your bag contains photographic equipment or films they will go through x-ray baggage screening. To prevent any damage to your items during the process you must carry processed photographic films only. Upon request customers may allow for manual screening as well. However, in such cases removing the film from the canister, and placing it within a transparent plastic bag is needed. 

3. Air gun, Firearm or Ammunition – You cannot carry them either in the carry-on or in your checked baggage. There is an exception for those in the police or armed forces, or sportspeople. 4. Fragile Goods and Valuable Items – Passengers shouldn’t carry such items in their checked luggage. The items include jewellery, silverware, currency, perishable goods, medicines, glassware, computers, certificates, bonds, securities, etc. If you keep such items in the checked baggage, and in case they incur any damage, then Indigo will not be liable to provide customers with any compensation. 5. Human Remains – Urns bearing ashes can be carried in the hand baggage. All aircrafts permit you to carry human remains barring ATRs. Moreover, under circumstances where human remains pose flight interruption or disruption, they will be prevented from carriage, solely at Indigo’s discretion. 

You can carry human remains on direct as well as indirect flights. They will be transported as cargo for which you need to submit certain documents like a death certificate issued by any competent medical authority, embalming certificate, the local police’s permission for carrying the human remains or dead body, and any other document that proves the identity of the deceased. In the case of international flights, extra documents will be required as well, which include copies of the deceased’s cancelled passport, etc. 

6. Human Organs – You can carry human organs on board but they mustn’t contain infectious substances of any kind. You should carry them in your hand baggage, no matter how big or how large your container is. During landing or take off you have to place the container below your seat or in the bin overhead. 

7. Alcoholic beverages – Customers can carry alcoholic beverages – not more than five litres though in their checked bags only. Some conditions must be met though. For instance, the alcoholic beverage must be within retail packaging, and also packed well. Also, the beverage’s alcohol content shouldn’t exceed 70%. 8. Musical instruments – Indigo allows passengers to carry musical instruments both in their domestic as well as international baggage. They won’t be charged anything for the same. Guitars are permitted as carry-ons when packed in soft cases. In case of other instruments, mostly the bigger ones, they have to be packaged well, and go in as checked baggage only. 

9. Special Baggage – Besides LED, and LCD Tvs as mentioned above, other items included as special baggage are golf bags, surfboards, bicycles, skiing equipment, and any other big-sized item with a size exceeding 158 cm. These items will go in as checked baggage. They will be charged a fee which is INR 2500 for domestic, and INR 4000 for international flights (or the equivalent currencies). This fee is additionally applied above any excess baggage charges which may be valid.
